We’ve teamed up with This Girl Can Nottingham to provide 300 free Feel Good Packs to young women aged 16-26 – to help them stay active and support their mental health and wellbeing as Covid-19 restrictions continue and places like gyms and swimming pools remain closed.
Research from The Institute for Fiscal Studies showed that mental health issues among young women doubled during the first two months of lockdown, with young women the worst affected group for mental health in the UK.
The free Feel Good Packs, which are being funded by Active Notts and Nottingham City Council, are being delivered to women in the communities we support, including St Ann’s and Sneinton.
We’re working with our community partners in the area to deliver 150 of the Feel Good Packs to those women most in need of support including Brendon Lawrence Sports Centre, Greenway Community Centre, Community Recording Studio (CRS), Nottingham City Homes and Metropolitan Housing.
Another 150 packs are up for grabs to women aged 16-26 living in St Ann’s and Sneinton.

The free Feel Good Packs include fitness equipment to help women keep active at home or outdoors, including stretch bands, skipping ropes and water bottles, plus feel-good essentials like wash bags, toiletries and tote bags, and This Girl Can balls and pens.
Our CEO, Cherry Underwood, explained:
“Just like everyone in Nottingham, we’ve had to adapt how we work because of Covid-19. Whilst our community sports centre, Brendon Lawrence Sports Centre in St Ann’s, has been closed during lockdown we’ve been delivering hundreds of Feel Good Packs to families and young people in our communities – to help them stay active and support their health and wellbeing.
“It’s great to be providing free Feel Good Packs specifically for young women in our area, thanks to our partnership with This Girl Can Nottingham, Active Notts and Nottingham City Council. As research shows, many young women have struggled with their mental health during lockdown and the Feel Good Packs are a way of helping them keep active and feel supported and connected through this difficult time.”
Nikki Lawson from This Girl Can Nottingham said:
“This Girl Can Nottingham is as a celebration of women across the city, no matter their age, ethnicity, shape or size, who are finding a way to become active and to support each other into activity. It is also a safe space for women to share their success, concerns, anxieties and
questions so that we can help to support them on their path to being active. We also support those who deliver activity to help them to understand some of the barriers that women face and how to help them overcome these.”
